Family FotoFun Ford Style

Donna over at Double Happiness has a great Family FotoFun Friday Challenge going this week and here are a few pictures I found looking back at a few of the messes James has made. Oh and one of Miah too!Ok so most every one knows if your child is a little to quite you better come running... I remember this as if were yesterday and I swear I can still smell the Cucumber Melon in James' hair! He was soooo cute trying to rub in the lotion... At least he got half of the application in the right place. It was so funny to me I could not get on to him so I grabbed the camera and took pictures instead.
Now this mess was all my doing... Here is James getting to lick the mixer blades with brownie batter for the first time. I so loved this moment with him it is one of my fondest memories as a child doing this very thing.
This picture is another all time favorite along with the other hundred I took that day. Believe it or not James is not in trouble here. I actually let him play in this puddle, he had been begging me every time it rained to play in the water and I just would not let him until this day. I just told him to go for it, and well he did. At first just little splashes and then bigger and bigger until he was wet from head to toe and in Little Boy Heaven. I had Randy hold him up so I could get a shot of him standing still and then Randy put him back down to enjoy a little more boy bliss.

Yes I know this does not LOOK messy, Oh but if you only knew! I caught Miah "sharing" a cookie with our friend Cassie whom we babysit from time to time. Now I say sharing lightly because her idea of sharing was to place her entire fist full of cookie in the dogs mouth , giggle and pull out her fist with the cookie still in hand and proceed to eat the cookie... YUCK!!!

I am sure I could share several more Messy pictures but I will leave you to go and check out Donna's other blog contributors.

Meme

I have been tagged by Kelley and per her written words the directions are:
Here are the “rules”: Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

Ok 8 things about me you may not know...

1. I found the love of my life at the age of 14 married him at the age of 18 and are working on 14 years of marriage this December.

2. I am afraid to drive anywhere I have not been before and only recently really started going out on my own any farther than a few miles.

3. I am a Praise and Worship leader at our church

4. I love to swim, don't care about my hair or what I look like to anyone else, Swimming brings me a feeling of self peace.

5. I am never satisfied with any scrapbook page I create, I always feel something is missing or it just turned out a flop, but I just keep going because I love it!

6. I LOVE SciFi... I am adictted to it and have been know to watch it for hours if I can get away with it.

7. I also Love to read, but latley it is really hard to find the time.

8. I want to fit in. I hate that I feel like an outsider most all the time, but I am working on being friendly so that others will see me as a friend, to tell the truth I am terribly shy... even when blogging.

There is a second way to play this game and here are the new or revised rules for that: You share four things that were new to you in the past four years. Four things you learned or experienced or explored for the first time in the past four years. New house, new school, new hobby, new spouse, new baby, whatever. Then you have to list four new things you want to try in the next four years.

1.Becoming a mommy to a little girl.... totally different from my son!

2.Homeschooling James ... This was full of good and bad times, it is not as easy as it looks.

3.I have learned that I am ok as me but there is always room to grow. I should love me where I am at but not leave me there.

4.Not every one who calls you their friend has your best interest at heart and sometimes no matter how much you love someone it just simply is not enough to make them love you.

Things I want to try are...

1.Disney World... always wanted to go and now I have two reasons why I should (James and Miah)

2.To break out of my shell and invite some people over for a bbq just to get to know them. I know that sounds small but for me it is huge.... So afraid of rejection.

3.Karaoke... Another breaking out my shell moment

4.To open my own small business making special scrapbook pages for others. I also want to open a little Bow shop...guess we will see.

Ok here I am asked to tag eight others.... Well all the people I would have tagged are already tagged so if you want to play along leave a comment and I will put your link here.

On the Mend

Today was a good day all things considered. Miah made it through her surgery with flying colors and is now on the mend. She was a little groggy for most of the day and wobbly on her feet, but other wise she had no side effects. We are suppose to keep her still for the next two days... Yeah right... That will take a miracle. She also can not get wet for two days and then she is good to go and we just wait for the patch to fall of instead of stitches being removed, that works for me. They are still feeling positive about the cyst that was removed but sent it of to pathology just to make sure.

I was a little sad because I think Miah was mad at me today and only came to me as a last resort... Ouch that hurts! She never let me out of sight but she would only let daddy hold her for the longest time. It was better tonight and I know she was in good hands but I do not like that feeling at ALL! I know better than to get on her bad side now.

Thank you for all who said a prayer for our girl! Enjoy the only picture I took today... Don't know what I was thinking???? But to tell you the truth I love what this one says to me. I AM JUST FINE !

Catching Up

Well it has been some time since I have written on the old blog here so I thought I would do some catching up. First of all I will tell you it has been much busier around our home the last month since Miah has taken off walking and falling and walking and well falling some more. She is defiantly getting the bumps and bruises to prove it! James has finished Kindergarten and is enjoying the summer rays. I have decided to put him in public school next year and am trying to gear him up for that... So far he is REALLY against it, but I think he needs to see that school is not just fun and games and that mommy really is not that mean in making him learn to read! I know that seems like a contradiction that he dose not want to go, but thinks it is all fun all the time... go figure.
Tomorrow will be three months since our first moments with Miah and some days I can hardly believe it has been that long, but to tell you the truth most of the time it feels like she has always been a part of our family. It is difficult to think of life without her in it. The wait was so long that I just knew that I would never get over it and now I can say that every day it is a little more of a distant memory... One I will never forget mind you but it is no where near as painful as being in that state of suspense and not knowing when it would end. There are a few wonderful people that I have the privilege of knowing (Bob & Erin http://moomiesandmelonwater.blogspot.com/ , Christie & Anton http://keirajoy07.blogspot.com/, Robyn & Paul http://chasingchinadreams.blogspot.com/ , and Valarie & Gary http://2china4love.spaces.live.com/ ) who are even now in the wait of a life time... Hey guys my heart is out there for you... I am praying and keeping a hopeful heart that your day will be sooner rather than later. Then you will look up and a few months will have passed and I can tell you the changes that happen are remarkable. Miah went from not even rolling over both ways to finally crawling and then walking. She is saying a few words like hi (SOOOO Cute) Bye-Bye, Mama, Mame (for James) and a few things I am not to sure of but she sure trys hard to say them.
Now to tell you about what has been going on just this last week and what we are about to face in two days. Miah has learned her own version of signing daddy, and well the other day she was doing so and out of the blue started calling Randy baba. It took me a few minutes to realize it but sure enough she calls Randy baba all of her own accord. We always say daddy or dada so I know she learned to say this in China. How cool is that. We have also been given the scare of a lifetime by our darling princess. She had been running a very high temp. for two days so I took her into the Ped. office only to be told it was viral nothing to be done but give her Motrin, fluids, and rest. So we left said office and headed out for home with a quick stop at walmart to grab a few dr. recommended items i.e. Popsicles and juice when the unthinkable took place.
Let me start from the beginning of walking in Walmart. I was looking for a cart with the baby seat attached with none in sight, when in walked a young man with just what I needed and I grabbed the cart put Miah in the seat and headed out. She was hot, but I already knew that, at the Dr. office her temp. was 103 but we had given her some Motrin and it should be kicking in by now so I am not worried. We are shopping and it looks like she is drifting off to la la land and I am rubbing her feet and talking to her softly trying to avoid others with small children as not to pass on her germs. Now I am almost done shopping when I get this check in my spirit, and I clearly feel that I am to call out her name. " Miah" I say with not response, not to worried thinking she is just sleepy then again "Miah, MIAH" at the point fear creep ed in like fog rolling in. I reached out to touch her and say her name again when I see the tiniest tremor from her. I know I have never moved so fast in all my life I pulled her out of the seat only to feel her little body go completely stiff. She was so hot it was radiating from her. Mind you the feaver should have been coming down by now, but that was obviously not the case. As her body stiffed up her head rolled back and her mouth looked like it was full of marbles, with her arms sticking straight out. A second... one tiny second, and I had to react. As it turns out I was standing in a aisle directly across from the pharmacy and I grab the end of the cart and barreled across the isle yelling at one poor lady " MOVE! PLEASE, I AM SORRY!!!" as I get to the pharmacy I see one guy and I focuse on him saying HELP me PLEASE I do not know what to do and she is Seizing... Poor guy, he did not hesitate, but he had not clue what to do either... Praise the Lord I look up and see the Phone ... Right there where I walked to where he would not haft to leave me so I tell him in a very firm commanding voice 911 NOW. Ok to this point we are talking fifteen to twenty seconds at the most and I have Miah in my arms shaking with her eyes rolling in the back of her head. I thought some of the most awful thoughts in that time span and I still managed to get help and tell them what to do to help me... Lets just say I REALLY get the whole mother bear thing now. Ok so Vik ( the pharmacist) is on the phone with 911 giving me instructions, and I grab my cell to call Randy get my mom instead and tell her to send Randy to Walmart right away. Still trying to soothe Miah they tell me to lay her on her side which I do on the counter which was right at a food wide while I am trying to dial Randy, talk to her, hear what Vik is saying and pray all at the same time... Some how I did it! Finally after misdialing Randy 4 times I get him only to say "GET TO WALMART NOW!! JUST COME!" Poor daddy had no clue what was wrong and to be honest his first thought was that I had run over a kid. ????? So back to Miah... It was about three Minutes now and the shaking had stooped, and was replaced by a look I never, NEVER want to see agian. Her eyes were vacant and try as I might I could get no response from her. She was in this state for about seven minutes before she started a low pitch moan that she repeated over and over. The 911 operator told us not to let her go to sleep and Randy was still not there nor was the ambulance. So I called Randy again and he answers only to have me scream Where are you?? Sorry babe. He could not find me in the store so I directed him. Miah was still on her side on this tiny counter moaning with that vacant look and I saw in Randys eyes what I felt in my whole body. Complete helplessness and fear beyond all reason. He was so tender with her it make my heart ache to think about it.About two minutes later the ambulance arrive and Miah still has not responded to anything, nor did she respond to the four huge strange men touching, talking and poking on her. When they took her temp. it was 104.3 after poking her thumb to take a blood sugar she finally began to cry... Music to my ears. They loaded us up in the ambulance and off we went to the hospital where much screaming and crying followed with all the poking prodding and just not fun stuff went on including an IV for fluids. All blood work was fine and after about five hours we were sent home with strict instructions to alternate meds every 3 hours through the night and to take her in the morning back to her Peds office. The seizure was due to the high fever and there was nothing that could have prevented it, or no way we could have known it was coming. I will haft to be pretty careful with any fevers she has in the future, but there are not side effects from this ordeal and they say she was not in pain ( not to sure I believe that). She is finally over her viral infection and the nasty rash that followed it, so we are good to go now. Good to go for surgery that is... YEP more needles and doctors to follow.
So if you pray please say a quick one for Miah as on the 6th she will go in for a minor surgery to remove a cyst on her right hip. I am not so concerned with the removal as I am them putting her to sleep, that just scares me. They will send the cyst of just to make sure that there are no problems, but at this point the doctors are sure there is nothing serious to worry about. I will post details after the fact.
So that is my catching up for now. Here is a picture of a very sick little girl reaping the benefits.

Protecting The Site

I have been considering the idea of protecting this site and for now I have decided to wait. I do not have a large following and that is fine with me, so I feel a little better. I am also getting a few tools to help me keep track of who is coming to this site. I just want to make sure my children are safe and really that is what this blog is about, my babies. I would love to go deep on a few issues but I do not do that here so I feel like flaming is not an issue for me right now either. This blog is just to write about the pain of the journey as well as the joy, and now that ,that part of the ride is over I want to write about all the wonderful things that my kids do,and oh yeah the not so wonderful things too. Really it is a journal of sorts for me to look back on but I also choose to share a few of our moments with others too. I also wanted to say thank you to those who sent me an email... I got back to most of you, but if for some reason you did not get an email from me please let me know. Thank you all for being a part of our little corner of the world.

A photo Shoot with Miah

Today Miah and I spent a few hours alone. Just the two of us and I decided to take advantage and do a photo shoot. It is such fun trying to capture that perfect picture and I am convinced some day I will but in the mean time I must admit if the pictures are not perfect the subject certainly is. Miah was much more int rested in a a leaf and being in my lap (NOTE: I LOVE that!) than in having her pictures taken. IT was all good and I had a few really clarifying moments.. One she is ... IS... my daughter and Two she is beautiful, I mean a classic beauty inside and out. I love this child so much. Enjoy the photos... These are a few that I took that actually had some potential... But hey the fun is in trying!

Family FUNFOTO Friday.... No No NO

I thought I would submit a photo to the FFFF for fun. If your intrested click here.... http://2happy.typepad.com/double_happiness/2007/05/no_no.html

Miah.... MIAH.. No baby please do not throw your food on the floor.... for the 100th time!

There are not that many no no nos going on in our home just yet, but the more she feels comfortable the more little test she gives me. This one is a favorite for Miah and really the only one I have in a pictures just yet.

Miah has been ours now for two months and it seems so much longer some days, and today she turned 14 Months ... Sigh... how to hold on to the baby stage just a little longer?? But how much fun to see her taking off at the same time! She is a full fledged walker now of six days, and I mean really walking and loving it.

Birthday Pictures

It has been a month now but I wanted to go ahead and post some pictures anyway. We had a small birthday party for Miah on my birthday. She really got into opening gifts and was not at all bothered by the attention showered on her. Some of my favorite moments are when she kissed her bunny from her Nene.... SO sweet. I also loved watching her tear into her birthday cake and then scream when I took it away. Heaven forbid I wipe the remaining icing off her tiny hands, she went into melt down mode when this happened. I also love that she was actually int rested in the toys. Most babies her age just want the box, but she had a blast playing especially with her gift from big brother. The Disney Princess Blocks were and are a big hit in our house.

Please note if you are reading this that I plan on going Password protected in the beginning of May. If you would like to follow along in this next phase of our journey please feel free to email me with a little information on who you are and why you like to read this blog. More details to come. hisgirlre@yahoo.com

Miah Makes a splash and a word on Mongolian Spots

As I was snapping pictures and taking video yesterday to put on this blog I suddenly I realized that some people might wonder if Miah has had a fall or been hurt. Please rest assured she has not. Miah has Mongolian spots, and she has them extensively on her back, arms, legs and bottom. They are not in any way physically harmful and are suppose to fade in time. They are purple in color and look like bruises and in fact are a sort of birth mark.It is common to find Mongolian spots with Children in cultures with darker pigmentation and if you are adopting from China you should read up on them. In the video I make a comment that Miah's spots are beautiful to me and they are but I must tell you when I first saw them I was a little shocked. You see I had only really heard very little about them and to my understanding they would only be two to three inches in size and maybe two or three on the baby. Now when I changed Miah it took me a moment to realize that her shoulders and back and almost her entire bottom are covered with purple Mongolian spots... not bruises. In the time that we have been home her spots have raised many questions among children and the bold and many raised eyebrows among others especially now that summer is almost here and she is wearing sleeveless shirts. If you adopt a child with Mongolian spots please make sure your pediatrician notes them in his/her medical file. Also if possible let any one such as Family, Friend or caretakers know about the spots before you leave your child with them or even change their clothes or Diaper in front of them. This will save you a lot of time explaining later and may save you from a call to a social worker. I have a couple of really good friends who I had not told about Miah's spots and I went to change her and they gasped... Loudly and then looked horrified. I felt really bad and kind of out like I needed to reassure them that Miah had not been beaten, not that they would ever think I or my DH would hurt her. To me Miah's Mongolian Spots are beautiful, they are a part of her that makes her who she is. Now when I see them I smile, but I also know that it is important to make sure others who may not understand become aware. Please Enjoy the clip and if you have any questions feel free to let me know... Oh and I will be putting a photo up of Miah with a better view of her back but not until I get this password protected ... Which is coming soon...

Life in our house

There is so much life at our house! It is a wonderful, joyful, stressed out, busy never slowing down life but I love it. Miah is growing and going, James too is changing and seems to be such a big boy now. I can hardly believe that we have been home for over a month now. Here is what has been going on with Miss Miah since we have been home....

* Miah has gone from hardly rolling over to taking her first steps

* Miah is saying a few words like Mama(be still my heart) and Dada bye and bite

* Miah is so loving, she will reach up and kiss me when I ask but the best is when she crawls up in my lap and kisses me with no provocation

* Miah gives wonderful little hugs and pats my back as if to say "love you"

* Miah love music and will dance and clap her hands...SOOO CUTE

* Miah will try and make me laugh by shaking her head in a cute little way and if she gets a laugh she will keep going.

* She has a fake cry... I swear it is the funniest thing ever and is heard mostly when she sees you are making a bottle for her ( I will try and capture in on film)

* She has a temper.... and knows how to use it, but does not really need to all that often

* She is possessive... of mommy, she has pushed a few hands away at church if they touch me to long and she will come rushing over to my lap at the hint of another child getting near me ... even James

* She will let me pretty much fix her hair however I please... SO FUN... and will wear hats too!

* She likes pretties... she has a toy with rings and she puts the rings on as bracelets and when you tell her she looks pretty she will get a sheepish grin and then a full blown smile... DARLING

* She likes clothes... Yeah... I think I may have a girly girl

* She does not like being sick and I do not like her being sick.... can we say MOODY

* She will come to me when I ask her to, knows what no means, and overall minds pretty well

* She is starting to learn sign language... She sings bite really well

* She does not know when enough food is enough so when she has had enough I haft to hide any sight of "her" food and heaven forbid you eat when she can not

* She is still taking a bottle but only one of formula a day and two of milk

* She is eating table food like a pro, but still eats baby food too just to make sure she is getting the proper nutrition

I am sure I could write several more quirks, every day things , and accomplishments but this is a great start. Miah is our darling and we are so blessed to call her ours, but she keeps us on our toes and gives James a real run for his money.

Bluebonnets

Today was a beautiful spring day and what better way to spend it than in a field of Texas Bluebonnets. James was the same age when I took his pictures in a field just like this one and it was a wonderful thing seeing Miah so pretty in the flowers. I plan on going back for more before they are gone, but I think we got a few good shots today so I thought I would share.

Happy Easter

Easter has come and gone. It was such a joy to celebrate our first holiday together with Miah, she was such a little doll in her Easter dress and watching her get into the Easter basket and even get a few eggs was priceless. We started the morning off with church and it was a great service, then off to my parents home. I saw family I have not seen in years and most of them had never seen James let alone Miah. I felt like one proud mama with my two beautiful children!! James was as handsome as ever and allowed me to dress him up for Easter too as long as he could wear his shoes from China... not a perfect match but well worth giving in for. He had a blast playing with his 3rd cousins and the rock pile they found in the back yard... Yes in his nice clothes, thank you for spray and wash. Both kids were on their best behavior, totally showing off the essence that is them. Finally we made it back home in time for James to hunt eggs in our own back yard and Miah even got a few, however she was much more delighted in shaking said eggs making music, than hunting them. I am so grateful that our wait has come to an end and days like yesterday are just the icing on the cake!

Saying Goodbye

I warn you now this post is sad.

We are still in shock and it really has not had time to hit home, but the time has come to say goodbye to Randy's dad. He left this world unexpectedly last week and we are all so very sad to see him go.

We love you dad with all our hearts and will always keep you close in our memory. You gave so much to those who knew and loved you. Your mark was made on many lives and all are the better for it, and it seems impossible to name all of your good deeds and many accomplishments in life for you were a man of integrity and committed to loyalty and the love of your family. Thank you for bringing such light to our lives and teaching us what true honor and a heart felt compassion for life really is all about. We will miss you dad... your loving daughter in law, Stacey

Rodger was only 64 years young. He left this world early due to complications with lung cancer and chronic emphysema. He is a retired military officer and a Vietnam Vet with two purple hearts and many other awards. He is survived by his wife Linda, Daughter Sarah, Sons Allen, Randy, and Robert , 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Please if you smoke.....Stop.

Miah's First steps

I am not really sure if I am ready for this or not but Miah is starting to do a few steps here and there. She has just grown leaps and bounds since that first moment together one month ago yesterday. Miah is so beautiful in so many ways and I am so blessed to call her my own, she is loving and has a winning personality. Enjoy the clip....

Portraits

Today we had portraits done. James was a real pill and would not under any circumstances smile for the camera... That is until sister was not around. I wanted to scream as fake smile after fake smile for the camera followed by whining and down right insolence. How ever as you can see below the moment the camera was on him and him alone all was right in the world and this shot only took two... yes two trys.... HMMMMMM not sibling rivalry here. HUMPH!!! I will try again latter to get a good shot of the both of them until then this will haft to do. Miah did very well, in fact she did much better than I expected. Especially after the week we have had (details to come next post) I really thought she would refuse to smile, but I could not keep putting off getting her pictures done as time seems to be flying already. Tomorrow marks one month from Gothcha Day for us and I am so in unbelief that we have been there and back and moved on in life. Enjoy the pictures and look for a few more posts in the next day or so I have a lot to blog about.

Happy Birthday To Me

Today I turn 32... Wow! I must admit this birthday was not as hard as turning 30 and I have the most beautiful birthday gift sitting in my living room right now... Even if she is a little fussy. We really did not do any celebrating today but to tell you the truth that was just fine with me, I enjoyed just spending the day in an easy pace with no worries but the laundry.
Miah continues to amaze me with how well she is doing. She is really starting to crawl now and is realizing little by little when I put her down she can follow me. She is starting to pull up and has been standing on her own for a few seconds at a time... walking to follow soon. Sleeping through the night is a go for the most part, but we stayed out late one night and that put a kink in it a little. She is a definite music lover and if she sees even a glimpse of dancing going on she will sit in a trance watching, nothing else can keep her attention like that. One thing I have noticed is she is gradually becoming more clingy. In the beginning she wanted me near but was ok to be put down, not so now she wants to touch me and be in my arms at all times. She will push any one and any thing that touches me and will scream if James get in my lap for more than a few seconds.... I just let her scream over that one.... She MUST share the mommy! James just thinks it is funny, and to tell the truth he pretty much takes it all in strides. He has been doing much better and is starting to love on Miah more and more.

Settling in

We have now been home for one week and I can say we are starting to settle in. The strangest part is walking into Miahs nursery and knowing that she is really there. I checked on her like three times in one hour the other night just because the sensation was so overwhelming and I could just not believe she was actually home and in her crib. Miah is really doing great and has already slept through the night three nights in a row... hope this keeps up! James is also right back on schedule and are starting back to schooling today. I know we are blessed and I am not taking that for granted at all, I have read many horror stories about Jet Lag Drama and I am so glad that we all made it through with minor suffering.... That was hard enough. I will tell you that I think a couple things helped. One we took a night flight home from China, and even though the kids slept they did not get GOOD sleep and so they slept well for several hours when we got back to the states. Two we hit the ground running early that first day, mostly because we had to, but I really think that made a huge difference. From there we did every thing we could to keep the kids and ourselves awake during the day and then started a bedtime routine with both kids right away. So really in less than a week Miah and James both are in a routine and sleeping through the night with little to no trouble.
Miah is also making huge strides in development. I know that I have read several times how adopted children from China catch up with leaps and bounds, but I must admit I thought a lot of it was bragging from the parents. Let me tell you with out any bragging Miah has made remarkable strides. It is almost as if for the first time she actually has freedom to move. To tell you the truth this may really be the case. When she first came to us a little over two weeks ago she would not roll over from back to stomach and when she tried she would cry and give up. In a matter of days she was rolling over and in heaven figuring out she could actually get some where. Now she was not crawling at all and when you would put her on her stomach she would scoot backwards a couple times and then collapse to the ground and cry. She has very little upper body strength. Now she will crawl side ways for a bit and actually gets to a goal as long as it is not more than a few feet, but still she has gone from not crawling at all to really trying hard to get there. I figure at this rate she will be mobile I mean really mobile by the end of the month and walking will not take to long as she is already cruising if you put her up to walk. She is also starting to pull up, another big accomplishment as I said before her upper body strength is greatly lacking, but she is getting there. It is amazing what a little play time, one on one attention and love will do!
We have been to our first Church service with Miah and It was so wonderful to see all the love and support when we walked in the door. I was also glad to see Miahs reaction... She held on very tight to me and even pushed away a few hands when they would touch ME... Showing possession at this stage is a very good sign. We love our church family and are so glad to be back home with you all!
Here are a few pictures of the past few days.... Enjoy.....
